NYC Airports Rank The Worst For On-Time Arrivals

contairlines

Even though fewer people are expected to fly this holiday season, local residents should not expect air travel to be any easier, according to a new report released today.

LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy and Newark Airports are ranked the three worst airports in the nation for on-time arrivals through the first nine months of the year.

The problem stretches well beyond the city, since such a large percentage of domestic flights pass through the area. In 2007, nearly three-quarters of all delays in the United States could be traced to slowdowns at the three area airports.

Changes have been made to improve the problem, including limiting the number of flights and opening restricted military airspace off the East Coast.

Flights are down 10 percent at LaGuardia, nine percent at Newark, and five percent at JFK in the last fiscal year. But the reduction has only reduced delays incrementally.

Meanwhile, Senator Charles Schumer is calling on the Department of Transportation to regulate frequent flyer programs.

He says too many frequent flyer miles expire without warning.

“As the holiday travel season approaches, we cannot let airlines and credit card companies continue to fly off with hard-earned frequent flier miles,” Schumer said. “When a consumer accumulates valuable frequent flier miles, they should not have to constantly worry that they are going to expire with little or no notification from the airline.”

Schumer estimates there are $165 billion worth of frequent flyer miles in circulation, and that 20 percent or more will go unused, because of confusing airline policy and additional fees.

This holiday season Airlines are turning into the Grinch.

xmasOrnaments

The two calendars below are the crux of this years Holiday Travel Buyers Guide. Both Thanksgiving and Christmas are showing with the darker colors depicting the most expensive days to board a flight for your departure and/or return. It’s also important to note that the airlines have added a “Peak Travel Surcharge” of $10 each-way to flights on select travel dates.

The dates that will be affected by the surcharge this holiday season are November 29 -
November 30, December 19, December 26 – December 27, and January 2 – January 3, 2010.

Each year millions of air travelers have set out  to enjoy the holiday season with their families and loved ones. But, this year in particular, many are questioning whether or not they can afford the luxury of a holiday airline ticket.

As you start shopping you’ll notice wild swings in prices depending on what day you want to depart and return. It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that everyone wants to leave and return on the same days.

Airlines have been studying these habits for years and price their seats accordingly. Review the calendar chart it shows you exactly what days you should target for finding the cheapest flight around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Be aware that non-stop flights are garnering 2 and 3 times premiums, so if you want to get to your destination the cheapest way possible, be prepared to take a connecting flight.

Continental Airlines is the latest in a surge of airlines to announce a $10 fee that affects passengers flying during the most well-travelled days of the year.  The latest  calculations are showing that with the additional fees  for checked baggage—airline fees on peak days “can push the total ticket price up by $25 or $60 (view airline fee comparation chart to help with your choices of airlines).  Delta Air Lines, U.S. Airways, Northwest Airlines and American Airlines each instituted a similar “miscellaneous” surcharge for flights that take off around the Thanksgiving and New Years Holidays.

EC Limo’s Monthy Sweepstakes CAR SERVICE STORY ENTRY (9/09)!

  • My first year out of college, I was working late in the office and my company offered me a ride home with their primary car service vendor. I was thrilled and accepted the offer, but little did I know, I was in for a surprise. As I hopped in the car, and took a whiff of the odious stench, I nearly passed out. Yes, the driver really smelled worse then my grandmother in a nursing home who showers once a month. Any way’s I hold my nose and kindly tell the driver to take me to my home in Teaneck, NJ. Attempting to make conversation with me, the driver noticed the ring on my finger and comments “I see your married. What’s your wife’s name?” I politely reply “Her name is Elizabeth, Lizzy for short, but if you don’t mind I would like to take a nap now. Can you please let when we are 5 minutes away? As the story goes, I wake up a half hour later, and have no clue where I am. The driver then turns to me and asks” Where in Elizabeth, NJ did you say you live, just give me the address and we should be there in a few minutes.” For those not familiar with the northern NJ area, Teaneck is about 40 minutes away from Elizabeth. I almost killed the driver.

EC Limo’s Monthy Sweepstakes CAR SERVICE STORY ENTRY (8/09)!

  • One time, I was picked up at JFK by a “town car” with a client in from Boston. I kept calling to find the car and couldn’t believe my eyes when I finally saw what had arrived. This town car that eventually rolled up had purple tinted windows with the Baby Phat logo stenciled on the back windows, a faux satellite antenna on the trunk, and silver rims. To further the humiliation of the experience, once inside, we were greeted with the scent omitted by not one, but two crown air fresheners that actually made our clothes smell by the time I arrived back at the office. Thankfully my client had a sense of humor and needless to say, we fired that service immediately.

  • One of the vendors we use was driving a Managing Director of the company and the driver got off the exit before her house, pulled over the car, went in the trunk for his toilet paper and proceeded to do his business in the woods. When the customer said we were only 10 minutes from her house he said “I couldn’t hold it in.
